Arthit Suriyawongkul is a Visiting Research Fellow at the United Nations University Institute in Macau.

Arthit Suriyawongkul is currently a PhD Candidate at SFI Centre for Research Training in Digitally-Enhanced Reality (d-real), based in Trinity College Dublin, Ireland. Before his doctorate study, he was a product owner and engineering research manager at Wisesight, a social media analytics company in Bangkok. Prior to that, Arthit was active in digital rights movement and digital culture study in Thailand and Southeast Asia. He taught digital anthropology at Thammasat University (Thailand) and was part of the Mobile Media Practices in Everyday Life research team, a joint project between Media Ethnography Group at Goldsmiths, University of London and the Center for Contemporary Social and Cultural Studies at Thammasat University. Before that, he was a research assistant at Applied Computational Linguistics group, University of Potsdam (Germany), and at the Knowledge Information & Data Management Laboratory, Sirindhorn International Institute of Technology (Thailand).

Arthit and his colleagues co-founded in 2008 the Foundation for Internet and Civic Culture (also known as Thai Netizen Network), an NGO promoting civil rights in the digital environment. With support of local organizations, he delivered trainings in Mainland Southeast Asia in the areas of digital security and journalist safety. Arthit also designs Mekong ICT Camps curricula on media and ICT for development and co-organized the first Thailand Internet Governance Forum in 2015 and the 8th Asia-Pacific Regional Internet Governance Forum in 2017. He started his career as a software localization engineer at Sun Microsystems and still involve in localization of digital security apps and contribute to open-source natural language processing tools in his free time.
