MACAU, 23 September 2021 – The University of Macau, on behalf of its Centre for Continuing Education (UM-CCE) and United Nations University Institute in Macau (UNU Macau) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on providing training activities in Macao. According to the MOU, both parties will establish a long-term partnership to strengthen collaboration in providing training activities on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, based on the principles of mutual benefits and the development of continuing education in Macao. The MOU was signed by Matthew Ting-Chi LIU, director of UM-CCE, and Dr. Jingbo HUANG, director of UNU Macau.
According to LIU, the educational exchanges and cooperation between Macao and the Mainland have become increasingly close. Strengthening the exchange and training of students between the two places will help them make unique contributions to reform, opening up, and modernization. Teenagers are the hope of the country. UM-CCE attaches importance to the education and training of young people, hoping to create good conditions for them to grow up, become talented, and succeed. Cooperation in training with UNU Macau is an important milestone in accomplishing the above goals. He expressed hope that the signing of the MOU would further solidify the ties between the two institutions and would help to nurture talent for the new era.
Dr. HUANG expressed, “We share the same values as UM-CCE about the power of young people in shaping a better future and driving the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. As a United Nations global think tank on Digital Technologies for sustainable development, we place great importance on capacity building and training to equip youth with knowledge on technology that they will need to thrive and become a positive force for change. We look forward to closely working with the University of Macau on training activities to ensure a secure, equitable, and sustainable digital future for all.”
