Samiullah Paracha was a Research Fellow at the United Nations University Institute on Computing and Society (UNU-CS) in Macau SAR, China. Before joining UNU-CS, he served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Information Systems at Graduate School of Information Technology, Kobe Institute of Computing, located in Japan. He has supervised the “Peace Lab” sponsored by Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for many years. His research interests are ICT for Peace & Sustainable Development; e-Learning; m-Learning; AI in Education; Educational Multimedia; HCI and Learning Analytics.
Samiullah Paracha has demonstrated capacity to supervise multi-cultural research teams to implement, monitor and report results of the ICT for peace and development projects in Afghanistan & African states. The results are published in book chapters, journal articles, conference papers and project reports, accompanied with 4 “Best Research Paper Awards”, 2 “Gold Medals”, and 7 “First Prize Paper Awards” from IEEJ, IRES and IEEE.
Prior to this, Samiullah Paracha has worked as Research Associate at Waseda University, Japan. In addition, he was appointed as Mentor ESL Teachers Training Program by the Japanese Board of Education. Furthermore, he served as a Special Lecturer for JICA’s ICT4D capacity building program and offered executive training to many groups of national, sectorial and city-level around the world; organized conferences and capacity building workshops/seminars in many developing countries; and managed research and development projects funded by the Japanese government including ABE and PEACE initiatives. Besides, he has professional experience working with NGOs in Afghanistan and Pakistan in the post conflict reconstruction and development scenario.
